Job Overview

We are seeking a passionate, dedicated, and experienced Deputy Manager / Room Leader to join a dynamic early years team in Streatham Common. In this key dual role, you will work alongside the Nursery Manager to oversee daily operations across the setting while maintaining direct oversight of the two Under 2s rooms. Working on a 50/50 split between room-based practice and leadership duties, you will support staff development and ensure exceptional care and education for all children.

This position offers excellent work-life balance, with the option to work your hours across 4 full days per week or a standard 5-day week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Dual Leadership & Administration: Spend 50% of your time leading in the room and 50% managing leadership responsibilities, stepping up to manage daily operations in the Nursery Manager’s absence.
  • Under 2s Oversight: Provide dedicated leadership and curriculum oversight for the setting’s two Under 2s rooms, ensuring age-appropriate care, development, and high-quality EYFS practice.
  • Room Leadership: Act as an exemplary practitioner when room-based, guiding staff to plan and deliver creative, engaging learning experiences.
  • Staff Mentorship: Supervise, guide, and support room educators to maintain high standards of practice, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Parent Partnerships: Build strong, positive relationships with parents and carers, providing open communication regarding child development and room updates.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Qualification: Full Level 3 (or above) in Early Years or equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years’ experience in a childcare management or leadership role (e.g., Room Leader, Senior Practitioner, Deputy Manager), ideally with strong baby/under 2s room experience.
  • Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of the EYFS framework, safeguarding, and child protection procedures.
  • Checks: Employment is subject to satisfactory enhanced DBS and reference checks.
