Our training is designed for nurseries, nursery schools, pre-schools, schools with early years provision, childminders and anyone working with babies and young children in an early years setting.

Paediatric first aid is a statutory requirement under the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework in England. At least one person with a current full paediatric first aid certificate must be on the premises and available whenever children are present, and must accompany children on outings. Settings must assess their staffing and arrangements to ensure appropriate first aid cover.
There are also qualification-related requirements: relevant Level 2 and Level 3 early years staff must hold an appropriate paediatric first aid qualification to be counted in staff:child ratios where the EYFS rules apply. The precise requirement depends on the qualification and circumstances.
Certificates must be renewed every three years. Training additional staff helps protect cover during annual leave, sickness, outings and staff turnover.
Tell us your setting name, postcode, number of learners, preferred weekday or weekend dates, and where you would like the training delivered. We will confirm the available course format, dates, venue suitability and price.
Clear answers to the questions nursery managers, childminders, nannies and parents ask us most. Can't see your question? Request a quote or call 020 7118 8994 and our team will help.
Paediatric first aid is emergency care for babies and children, from birth to puberty. It covers CPR, choking, bleeding, burns, seizures, allergic reactions and recognising serious illness such as meningitis and sepsis. The techniques differ from adult first aid, which is why Quint Education teaches them on baby and child manikins.
Full paediatric first aid is a minimum of 12 hours and covers the widest range of emergencies, injuries and illnesses. Emergency paediatric first aid is a minimum of 6 hours and focuses on life-threatening situations. Quint Education will help you choose the right one for your role before you book.
The full course takes 12 hours, usually over two days, or as about 6 hours of online learning plus a 6-hour practical day (blended). The emergency course takes one day. Quint Education runs both on-site, on evenings and at weekends.
You will learn baby and child CPR, choking, the recovery position, defibrillator use, bleeding and shock, seizures and febrile convulsions, anaphylaxis and auto-injectors, burns, head injuries, fractures, asthma, diabetes and how to spot meningitis and sepsis. Quint Education's trainers relate every scenario to real nurseries, schools and family homes.
Yes, for Ofsted-registered early years providers following the EYFS. At least one person with a current full paediatric first aid certificate must be on the premises whenever children are present, and on outings. Quint Education can help you work out how many staff you need trained to guarantee cover.
Yes. Staff who gained a Level 2 or Level 3 early years qualification on or after 30 June 2016 need a full or emergency certificate within three months of starting work to count in ratios. Quint Education runs weekday courses from just two learners, so new starters do not have to wait.
Yes. Childminders, and any assistant who might be left in sole charge, must hold a current full (12-hour) paediatric first aid certificate. Quint Education offers evening and weekend courses so childminders can train without closing their setting.
Three years. Under the EYFS, training must then be renewed. Quint Education recommends booking renewal two to three months before your certificate expires, and can schedule renewals for your whole team.
Once it expires, you no longer count as a paediatric first aider, even if you remember everything. That can leave a setting without cover or stop you counting in ratios. To renew full paediatric first aid, you complete a full course again. Contact Quint Education and we will find you the earliest suitable date.
Ofsted does not approve any first aid course or training provider. It inspects settings against the EYFS, which sets out what paediatric first aid training must cover. Quint Education designs its courses around those EYFS criteria and is happy to talk you through the course content before you book.
No. Workplace courses such as Emergency First Aid at Work focus on adults and do not meet the EYFS paediatric requirement. Childcare staff need paediatric first aid, which covers infant CPR, choking in babies and childhood illnesses.
Partly. Blended courses, with online theory plus an in-person practical day, can meet the full requirement. Fully online courses cannot assess practical skills like CPR and choking, so they do not meet the EYFS requirement. Quint Education offers practical, assessed training, including blended options.
Yes. Quint Education delivers on-site training at nurseries, preschools, schools and childminder groups, with weekday sessions from two learners and weekend sessions from four. We just need a clear floor space for manikin practice and chairs for everyone. If your space is too small, we can help find a nearby venue.
Yes. Weekend sessions run from four learners and let nursery staff train without coming out of ratio. They suit childminders, nannies and people who work weekdays.
Yes. You do not need an employer to book. Students, career changers, nannies, au pairs, parents and job seekers all book with Quint Education. Weekday sessions run from two learners, so we will offer you an upcoming date or match you with other learners.
At your setting, at Quint Education's training location in North West London, or at a suitable local venue we help you arrange.
Your trainer will watch you demonstrate practical skills, such as CPR, choking and the recovery position, and check your knowledge with questions or a short paper. Wear comfortable clothes, as you will kneel on the floor, and tell us in advance about any physical needs.
It depends on the course, the format and how many people are training. On-site group training is usually the best value per person. Send Quint Education your postcode, numbers and preferred dates using the quote form for a clear quote.
A certificate from a course that meets the EYFS criteria belongs to you, not your employer, and stays valid until it expires. Some employers have their own preferences, so it is worth checking.
