Class Teacher – Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Location: Edgware (HA8)

Pay: From £150 a day

Contract Type: Long-Term Supply (September – July 2027)

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated SEN Class Teacher to lead and support pupils at a specialist SEN School in Edgware (HA8). You will be responsible for planning, delivering, and adapting an engaging curriculum tailored to pupils with complex special educational needs, creating an inclusive learning environment where every child can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver differentiated lessons designed for pupils with complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD).
  • Manage classroom staff, including SEN Teaching Assistants, to ensure effective, coordinated support across all learning activities.
  • Utilize positive behavior management strategies to maintain a safe, structured, and encouraging environment.
  • Implement adapted communication strategies (e.g., PECS, Makaton, visual timetables) to support non-verbal and pre-verbal learners.
  • Assess, track, and report on student progress, adapting learning plans to meet individual Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCP) targets.

Essential Requirements & Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • 1–2 Years of SEN Experience in a School Setting (Essential): Proven experience leading a classroom and supporting complex special educational needs (ASC, SLD, MLD).
  • Behavior Management & De-escalation: Strong expertise in positive behavior management strategies and confidence handling challenging behaviors. Physical intervention training (e.g., Team Teach or PRICE) is highly desirable.
  • Communication Skills: Familiarity with non-verbal communication tools (e.g., PECS, Makaton, visual timetables).
  • Compliance & Safeguarding:
    • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (child  + Adult workforce).
    • Up-to-date Safeguarding in Education training.
