Key responsibilities

Overall

  • To develop the nursery
  • To be fully hands on and flexible
  • To lead the nursery to reach an Outstanding grading with Ofsted.
  • to insure consistency with pedagogy and way of doing from t he other nursery(/ies)
  • To ensure overall responsibility for the effective daily management of the Nursery, to have a sound knowledge of all nursery Policies, Procedures, Statutory Welfare Requirements and Ofsted expectations and ensure that these are maintained at all times.
  • To be a role model to the staff team. Be able to showcase high quality practice with regards to individual and group work with children, dealing with staff and parent issues as they arise.
  • To complete a rigorous action plan that supports the development of areas
  • Prepare long term, medium term and short-term plans.
  • Carrying internal audits
  • Preparing for OFSTED inspections.
  • Maintains a flexible approach to the work of the nursery in response to the needs of children, families and staff.
  • Be on call if emergency requirements

Nursery

  • Organise the marketing for new starter of children
  • Be ready to be flexible and if needed step in to replace an absent staff member in the rooms
  • Be enthusiastic and lead by example

Safeguarding

  • Overall responsibility for the safety, security and well-being of all children, staff and visitors at all times.
  • Act as the Designated Safeguarding Person within the setting, dealing with and supporting any issues as they arise.
  • To reinforce nursery policy and procedures at all times and deal with any breaches swiftly and in an appropriate manner.
  • Ensure a good standard of hygiene within the service.
  • Ensure Healthy Food Policy is implemented.

HR

  • To embrace, understand and promote the nursery and to understand the role you play as a member of the management team in providing high levels of care and education.
  • to be willing to work in the rooms, to train staff when needed
  • Be proactive in forecasting future occupancy levels, staff retention and make appropriate decisions in relation to staffing.
  • Lead on safer recruitment and ensure nursery policies are followed throughout the recruitment process.
  • Ensure a full induction, ongoing regular contact and probation reviews with new employees, offering any support and guidance and addressing performance concerns as required.
  • Ensure that mandatory training is up-to-date for all employees.
  • Continuously work on improving the quality of teaching and adapt to any new regulations
  • Source training to meet the needs of the team that have been identified by the Nursery Management Team or through supervisions.
  • Mentor and lead the whole Nursery Team and offer support and guidance as required.
  • To lead on ideas and initiatives to maintain employee engagement.
  • To take a leading role in dealing with investigations, disciplinaries and absence management in line with nursery policies and procedures.
  • Continually motivate and develop the staff team within the nursery through effective role modelling, spending time in rooms throughout the setting
  • Lead regular meetings and training. Staff meetings must take place at least once a week and have a full written agenda and minutes to accompany.
  • To recognise and reward Outstanding practice within the nursery.
  • Promote equality and diversity within the nursery, challenging any behaviour which does not support our Inclusive Practice and Equal Opportunities Policy.

Children

  • Reflect on daily practice and identify areas for continual improvement.
  • To ensure that all children are treated as individuals and that we are supporting this through our approach to planning in line with the EYFS.
  • To work in partnership to ensure standards are continuously being met in line with Ofsted requirements and the EYFS.
  • As a management team, to oversee planning and children’s developmental records and ensure that they reflect their individual progress and are up to date.
  • Ensure Key person System is in place and records are kept accordingly.
  • Ensure records of children are up to date

Community

  • To lead on effective partnerships working with children, families and the wider community. Continuously looking at ways to build relationships with external agencies.
  • Develops a good collaborative relationship with schools in the local area, plus other providers and members of the local community.
  • Working with/alongside professional bodies – working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Maintains strong positive relationships with the nursery’s neighbours, quickly resolving any difficulties that arise or escalating to the Director as required.

Parents partnership

  • Organising & hosting events – includes ‘bring your parent to school day’, parent/teacher
  • Developing strong parents partnership through trust and mutual respect
  • Always answering their questions/demands within 24h and in a professional manner
  • including them in activities for children: bringing in parents to present what they do for example

Finance and premises

  • To effectively manage the nursery budgets and spending especially as new rooms are opening up Responsibility for the day to day management of the premises and services, liaising with the managing director to ensure essential repairs and maintenance of the building are carried out within budgetary limits
  • Responsible for ensuring correct fees are being sent to clients
  • To manage the staff payroll and payments including the payleave/holidays/…
  • To lead government subvention scheme provision for pre-schoolers (where applicable).

Marketing

  • To take care of the marketing of the nursery and work towards filling the nursery and reaching full occupancy. This includes engagement with external stakeholders, active marketing and relevant actions to promote the nursery
  • Organise open days and external events as required
  • be fully responsive to new parents requests and answering within 12h and no later than 24h

Data

  • Ensures safe storage and appropriate access for all information, to guarantee compliance with data protection legislation.
  • Maintain all records as required by OFSTED
