Nursery Kitchen Assistant

Location: West Norwood, London

Hours: Part-Time (25 hours per week) – 5 hours a day

Pay: £12.71 – £14.00 per hour

The Role

Quint Education is looking for a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Assistant to join a friendly nursery team in West Norwood. This is a vital role in ensuring the smooth running of the nursery kitchen, supporting the Chef in providing fresh, healthy meals for the children in a safe and clean environment.

Your Key Responsibilities:

• Meal Preparation Support: Assist the Nursery Chef with basic food preparation (chopping vegetables, preparing snacks, etc.) in line with the daily menu.
• Cleaning & Hygiene: Maintain high standards of cleanliness in the kitchen and dining areas, including washing up, clearing tables, and deep-cleaning equipment.
• Food Safety: Follow all food hygiene and safety regulations, ensuring food is stored correctly and surfaces are sanitized.
• Dietary Awareness: Assist in ensuring that children with specific allergies or dietary requirements receive the correct meals.
• Waste Management: Assist with monitoring stock and ensuring food waste is kept to a minimum.
• Teamwork: Work closely with the Chef and nursery practitioners to ensure meal times are calm, organized, and enjoyable for the children.

Applicant Requirements:

• Experience: Previous experience in a kitchen environment is preferred (school, nursery, or care home experience is a plus).
• Qualifications: A Basic Food Hygiene certificate (Level 1 or 2) is highly desirable, though training can be provided for the right candidate.
• Compliance: Must be eligible to work in the UK and hold (or be willing to undergo) a Full Enhanced DBS check.
• Attributes: Punctual, hardworking, and able to work well under pressure during busy lunch periods.
• Communication: Ability to follow instructions clearly and communicate effectively with the kitchen and nursery team.
