Job Title: 1:1 Special Education Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) for Child with Autism

Department: Primary School – in Northwest London (NW9)
Salary: Daily Rate up to £90 per day
Start Date: 9th January 2024 – ongoing (5 days a week – Term Time)
Times: 8:30am to 3:30pm
Summary:
We seek a compassionate and dedicated 1:1 Special Education Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to provide personalized support to a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in our supportive and inclusive primary school environment. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of ASD and strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage and support the child in their academic, behavioural, and social-emotional development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 support to a child with ASD in the classroom and throughout the school day, including:
- Delivering individualized instruction and support based on the student’s IEP (Individualized Education Program)
- Implementing behaviour management strategies to address challenging behaviours
- Assisting with academic tasks and projects, adapting activities as needed
- Facilitating social interactions and communication skills development
- Collaborate closely with the Special Education Teacher and other relevant professionals to develop and implement the student’s IEP
- Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders regarding the student’s progress and needs
- Attend professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date on best practices for supporting children with ASD
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress and interventions
- Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that caters to the child’s unique needs
- Demonstrate a genuine passion for working with children with ASD and a commitment to their holistic development
Person Specification:
- Relevant experience working with children with ASD in a school or childcare setting, ideally in a primary school environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with children, parents, and colleagues
- Ability to adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the child’s individual needs and learning styles
- Patience, empathy, and resilience to handle challenging behaviours and provide consistent support
- Familiarity with autism spectrum disorder and its associated challenges and strengths
Qualifications:
- Desired but not essential: Level 2 or equivalent qualification in Teaching Support or Special Needs
- Desired: DBS preferably on the update service
